Just curious.
I'm sure this has been beaten to death, but are there any other contenders for best USB capture solution other than the 1212 and the ATI 650? I'm really just interested in capturing VHS at the moment.

VirtualDub cannot capture from the Hauppauge HD PVR 1212. It can capture from the ATI 650 USB2. The ATI 650 based solutions suffer from an automatic gain feature which sometimes blows out highlights and lowlights and sometimes screws up the saturation.

Yeah I've been reading all the posts on the 650 lately. Would it be better to use the 1212 with something other than VirtualDub? Or simply accept the 650 and the problems that come with it. Or is there a third option?

Get the ATI 600, which does not have the same issue as the 650.
There's a few used sticks on Amazon pretty cheap: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00138EOH8?ie=UTF8&tag=thdifa-20&linkCode=as2&camp=17...SIN=B00138EOH8
I think the card was about $100 new.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)
