Optimal mpeg2avi conversion.

I use mencoder to convert marriage mpeg file to avi using the procedure of three steps.
First step:
mencoder -oac mp3lame -lameopts abr:br=128:vol=6 -ovc lavc -lavcopts
-codec=mpeg4:vbitrate=656:v4mv:mbd=2:trell:cmp=3ubcmp=3:mbcmp=3:autoaspect:vpass=1 -vf crop=720:416:0:80,scale -zoom -xy 640 -sws 2 file.vob -o /dev/null

Second & Third step:
mencoder -oac mp3lame -lameopts abr:br=128:vol=6 -ovc lavc -lavcopts
-codec=mpeg4:vbitrate=656:v4mv:mbd=2:trell:cmp=3ubcmp=3:mbcmp=3:autoaspect:vpass=3 -vf crop=720:416:0:80,scale -zoom -xy 640 -sws 2 file.vob -o fileo.avi

Final file size about 350MB for 40 minutes. One question: these options are best?
