  1. I recently recieved an ADVC 100 DV/AV Converter Box yesterday. When I hooked it up I
can't seem to see it on my system. Also I notice that when the ADVC100 is turned on my external Firewire Drive disappears for my computer.
It is hooked up to my system via a firewire hub that works fine. I purchased this to see if this would work better than a Dazzle Hollywood Bridge that I already own.
When I hook up the Dazzle my system tells me that I hooked up a DV Camera/VCR to
it so I know that it is working.
Should the ADVC 100 show up in my system even if there is no VCR or anything
hooked up or running through it?
    I have a Sony Vaio RX600 workststion with a P4 Processor, 512DDR RAM, NVIDIA
GeForceTi 64MB Graphics Card, and a Sondmax Integrated Audio Card and running Windows XP Home.

Thanks for the Advice and Help,
    Dezine (Michael)

  2. What do you mean it doesn't appear? What do you expect to appear as?

When you hook the ADVC it should be recognized by the Device Manager and if you have the speakers on and the sound ON you will hear a "bell sound" telling you a new device has been recognized as pluged-in. You will not see any icons on the My Computer. I don't know why your Firewire Drive disappears since Firewire is made for multiple devices to behooked up and do not interfere with each other, infact firewire uses no software for the transferring of info just the drivers for the system. This may be a fluke in the manufacturer of the hub or your particular firewire card. It should be an OHCI compliant firewire card and early firewire cards (1-1/2 years or ealier had a problematic Texas Instrument Chip within the card that gave problems).

Do a search on this forum for ADVC and look for my name VideoMann I gave a very detailed info on installing the device for WindowsXP that may have info applicable for Windows98.

The ADVC is very stable and quite easy to use once the WindowsOS recognizes the device.

  3. Thanks for the quick reply. I talked to tech support today when I got home from work and they were able to help me get it up and running.
The problem was that I couldn't run it through my Firewire Hub. It is a 6 port hub and supposively the ADVC100 isn't configured to run on anything more than a 3 port hub.
I pluged it into my External Firewire drive and the problem was solved.
Both Hard Drive and AVC Complient Tape Recorder show up.
Now to perform some test captures and compare the Canopus ADVC100 to the Dazzle Hollywood Dv Bridge.

    I'll post my results.

    Thanks Again,
