dvd2avi problems

I am trying to convert dvd to a d2v file to put on vcd, the problem I am having is after I rip the dvd I try to convert it using dvd2avi when I load the project all the settings are correct like any other dvd but when I start to convert it starts out slow then 30 seconds in to it it speeds up and finishes in less than a minute. I know this is not normal cause I have done alot of other dvds and it usually takes an hour to convert. I have tried everything can you please help?[/b]
