Hi
I am wiondering whether anyone out there knows of an external HDD/media player, atleast 1TB, which will play MKV files without me having to split them if more than 4GB?

Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays!

WDTV series, Seagate Free Agent, etc.
Note that MKV is a container. Not all possible codecs that may be used in those containers are supported. But more often than not you will find h.264 or Divx/Xvid ASP video and AC3, AAC, MP3 audio -- which the above players can play.
Also note that the FAT32 file system is limited to 4GB files. So you will need to use NTFS instead.
