I'm having trouble with the TV settop box format (trp) & converting it into a format which will fill the TV scene properly. I use the settop box to record a late night music video program (about 4 hrs), I then convert it from "trp" to "mpeg2" so I can edit it. The problem occurs here, even though I'm editing the same mpeg2 file, one music video clip may vary in resolution size. Some are 16:9 which is fine, others are 4:3, but letterbox all the way round, so the video looks like a smaller 4:3 inside a larger black box. I just want the video to fill the screen the best it can.

Is there a format that can adjust to the type of sceen resolution, be it 4:3 or 16:9 or am I just going about it the wrong way?

Thanks for the forum & a great site which has help me lots through the years.
    Thanks Guys.

Your recording will ALL be one format - a 16:9 transmission by the sounds of it. What has happened is that someone has taken an original 16:9 video and "letterboxed" it for 4:3 transmission (top/bottom bars). Someone else has then taken this 4:3 video and again "letterboxed" it for 16:9 transmission (left/right bars). So you end up with a 16:9 image sourrounded by bars on all sides!

Is there some "format" that can fix this? NO

You'll have to manually crop each "segment" seperately depending on it's own ratio & letterboxing.

    Thanks TJohns,
I thought there might be an easier way, no such luck. by the way, If you were doing the same as me, what format would you be converting your trp files too?

I'm not what you might class as "fanatical" about my video conversions - I generally just go to XVID+MP3 coded AVI's ... they'll play just about anywhere

    Thanks Tjohns,
I found an app called XMedia Recode. It has converting & editing with crop, it seems to do the job. I converted my mpeg2's into avi's with mp3 & xvid. It works well on my large 4:3 TV, just need to check it out on someones else wide screen.
    Thanks again.
    All the best.
