I want to make this mpeg file widescreen to give it that "dvd" feel and look. How would I do it? plz help, Thanks

Heres the answer...
You can convert a 16x9 widescreen source video to 4x3 using TMPGEnc. Just convert the video like you normally would except click the 'setting' button, then the 'advanced' tab and set the 'source aspect ratio' to '16x9 Display'. Then set the 'video arrange meatod' to 'full screen (keep aspect ratio)'. TMPGEnc will then automatically letterbox the video for you as it encodes. If you are one of those people who for some strange reason dont like letterboxing you can set 'video arrange meatod' to 'no margin (keep aspect ratio)'. This will make the video fill the entire screen but you will lose a large portion of the picture on either side, so my advice is to stick with letterboxing.

In what format is your source file? I mean pixel by pixel size?
Is your display device widescreen or 4:3?
