Perhaps a few other phrases would have been more to the mother's liking.

    Like:
    "Dumba55"
    "Please do not procreate"
    "too bad 33 tri-mester abortions aren't legal"
    "are you F***ing kidding me?"
    "WTF??"
"a simple BJ would have prevented you"
"well honey, someone has to set the low end of the average"

Knowing as many teachers as I do, a lot of these 6th-8th grade girls are spoiled cunts.
I doubt we're hearing the whole story.

Northie's a teacher -- I'm sure he has plenty of stories.

I know that you're joking northcat, but if you or any other teacher wrote that crap on my kid's work, you'd be eating and breathing from a tube. If you (general you) can't handle teaching, get the **** out of the business.

If the kid is not doing well, it's time for a parent conference. And they better do it before writing "loser" on an assignment, because that conference will be their last (of anything).

Isn't it hypocritical to call anyone else living in Buncombe County a loser? I assume the teacher lives there too.

I prefer "If you can't handle raising kids, stop *******."

Some of those parents are the reason kids cannot (or refuse to) learn anything in school.

On a related note, I'm tired of seeing all those boo-hoo stories about kids starving in Africa or other third-world locations. Those place have like 4-8 kids on average! MORONS! No sympathy here.

Maybe you're joking here, but I don't understand why some people feel this way about the article. I've seen comments on this story in several places that say it's the parent's fault, or that the girl is a horrible student, but the story doesn't support those claims. It is proven fact, within the stories, that the teacher harassed the student and wrote "loser" on her papers, even after being ordered to cease. There is nothing in these reports about the content of the student's paper, nor the girl's behavior.

How long would this site stay popular if the answer to every newbie question was "Tough shit, bitch! You're a loser if you can't figure it out!" (And "do a forum/Google search" doesn't count)

Basically, how would you feel if that comment was written on your assignment by a person whose job it is to make sure you learn the material?

If you're a teacher, the ************* census is not your business. Teaching kids so that you don't feel that they are "losers" is your business.

Oh, my last comment wasn't related to the story. We had already gotten away from that.

But if you want to get back on topic...

I sometimes question "whose job it is to make sure you learn the material" too. Is it really? What about the parent's role in education of their children. Would a parent teach a kid to swim by throwing him in the pool, walk away, and expecting the lifeguard to take over from there? That's how many parents treat the school systems. I could walk up to 10 random people and ask what their kid is currently studying in school, and they would have no idea. That's crap. Teachers start it, yes -- but parents need to be active in that process. Otherwise, don't have kids if you don't want to make the effort.

So maybe "stop *******" was on-topic?

Not the best example. It's the teacher's job to teach the material. A lifeguard is there to save, not to teach people how to swim.

The fact is that dumb-ass, nearly retarded people will have children. The lack of parenting makes it imperative that the schools/teacher become more involved in this instance in order to keep them from becoming the net generation of dumb shits.
My parents were quite possibly Cro-Magnon, and my birth is absolute proof of evolution. Despite this disadvantage and also having douchebag teachers like the one in the article, I not only persevered, but thrived and surpassed my peers who had so-called "helpful" parents.

I understand that it's frustrating, and certain people (most?) should just be outright sterilized to save the gene pool (check out Idiocracy for more on that), but that doesn't excuse this a-hole.

here's my feeling on this: it's the teachers job to teach, it's the parents job to parent, it doesn't take a genius to figure this out.

a parent is not qualified (at least most aren't) to teach their kids the material being taught in their kid's school nor should the parent be expected to be able to teach the material to the kid, that's why property taxes exist and are paid and that's what teachers are for.

as cliche as it may sound, when a kid fails to learn the material being presented it's not the kids failure, it's the teachers. over the years i have been asked to train a number of people, primarily in the pest control field and with each person i trained i always embraced the attitude that if they didn't know what the **** they were doing after i was done training them then i failed to teach them properly.

now it may be possible that this kid is what could be termed a "problem" kid, she may not have been the sharpest knife in the drawer, but more often than not a smart person can present ideas so that even a dumb person can understand it, conversely the ideas can be presented in such a way that no one understands what the **** you are talking about.

Yep, a friend sent me the link to this story/video a day or so before it was posted here, and the first thing i said to her was, if one of my kids in grade school came home with that written on their paper, the cops would have to drag me out of that school because someone would be getting their @$$ beat!!

Then how do you deal with this scenario:

Teacher: Here's your homework and reading assignment for the week.
    Student: ...
Parent: ... [says nothing] OR Did you do your homework?
    Student: Yeah. OR No homework.
    ... next day ...
    Teacher: Pass in your homework.
    Student: **** you.

Tell me again how the teacher is not doing her job?
I have friends that are teacher and have to put up with the exact same BS on a regular basis.

Parents need to be involved, without being a helicopter.

i'm more than happy to explain it to you: the term "homework" is a euphemism for "the teacher is too lazy to teach the kids the material properly".

from my own personal experiences, all through grade school, high school and college, one thing became apparent, if you didn't learn the material in the classroom, you weren't about to learn it at home, if you could learn it at home then you wouldn't have had to take the classes in the first place.

seriously, think back to when you were in school, was there ever any subject, any lesson, any material, that you didn't learn in the classroom but mastered through homework?

the loser is the teacher, plain and simple.

You're not thinking this through at all.

If the teacher is supposed to teach the content for the meager hour he/she is given, then when do the students do the testing? (That is, the homework, not a quiz or test.)
Should less subjects be taught, to make more room for a "no homework" environment?
What happens when your kid is the only dumbass in the class and can't learn in the hour or two available? Why is the teacher still at fault?

Nobody said anything about "learning at home" -- that was just the work you take with you and bring back the next day, to prove you learned it while you sat in the classroom and paid attention. You did pay attention, right?
