Most affordable DVD player that plays vcds

I'm looking for the most affordable(okay, cheapest) dvd player that plays vcds. Trust me, I understand you get what you pay for and I'm not looking for a region free, progressive scan, multi disc tray beauty. This is for my 9 year old nephew who won't be able to play the original vcds I bought him because I've abandonned my search for a movie card for his Playstation.
Homemade vcds aren't a big concern I just need a unit that will play dvds and original vcds. I gave up looking for a movie card because I've read it wears out the laser on the PS. A used one is fine as long as it's in decent condition and plays. Anyone one with any insight or player please let me know.

The cheapest one has to be the one i got. I just saw an ad at best buy that sales the mintek 2580 for about 59.99. I just checked there website so i know its less that 69.99. It plays vcd's but not svcd's. I saw a hack though on a web site that said it could make it play svcd's, but i havent tried it yet.

don't know about VCD players, but you might just want to ramp up to a DVD player. My preference, the apex 1100W 1mb dvd player. It will play your VCd, SVCD, CVD, DVD, etc, etc, etc, (I emphasize etc. because that little player plays just about everything I have thrown at it - weird XVCD stuff).

Thanks for the feedback. That sounds like a great deal you got Maverick. I was looking at around $50 for a PS movie card with shipping so I figured I'd see if I could get a player for about that. SVCD playback is an essential for someone like myself and you perhaps ( I have a Sampo for just that purpose)but my nephew won't need it.
This will pretty much be a knock around unit considering he's 9. Although he's responsible, I don't want to invest too much in a unit that would get limited use and probably less than stellar care.

One thing first, the Mintek is a dvd player.

Also if you plan on using the hack, the site I saw said it would make it so that you can play svcd's but every once and a while it breaks ur dvd player and turns it into a door stop
