  1. I have a newer Sony Vaio desktop with a Pioneer DVD-R/W burner and have trouble burning DVD's that play on stand alone commercial players. Have tried recording at the slowest speed and a selective startup. (per Sony) Here's the media I've tried so far:

    CD-Recordable.com
    Memorex
    Universal
    TDK

So far, TDK is the only brand that works consistently. If anyone has had success with another brand on a Sony Vaio, I would sure be interested. (looking for a less expensive alternative to TDK)

    Thanks,

    Sean

  2. Try Apple 5-packs for 25 bucks. No wonder that the other two that you have mentioned don't work - cheap-o disks either don't work, or stop working at some point. It also appears that your player is kinda picky. This is good since if media works on your player, it will probably work anywhere. That's why you have to stick to high-quality known-brand disks from the start. It will save you a lot of money and re-burns later.

  3. Use only Pioneer or Apple branded discs.

    Read why at http://www.dv.com

By the way, I'm using the $1.00 dollar DVD-R from CDRecordable (the silver version, not the writable, they suck) and have burned about 250 pieces without any problem. Well, actually, only 1 (ONE) has failed. The writable version failed 60% of the time.

  4. Thanks for the input guys. I'll probably go with the Apple unless you think I can get the Pioneer for less than $5. I am intrigued by the silver media you mentioned but I couldn't find it at cd-recordable.com. Can you post the link to it?

    Thanks,

    Sean
