I have tried several different free video capturing software programs and they all seem to not recognize the sound card or sound source from my computer. I have the right hardware connected from my computer to the tv, and the settings to each of the programs are always correct. I have deduced that it must be my own computer or my OS, Vista. I hear that Vista has problems sometimes with audio devices.

Can anyone help me? Do I need to buy a sound card and have it installed to my computer, or is it something else? Thanks,

Ok you need to offer more detail. What program are you using to capture with?

Also if you have spdif 5.1 sound output you may not be able to record the digital output. I believe that is being fed digitally directly to your amp. If you have analog 5.1 set to regular desktop speakers and not to a digital amp you may be able to record that. However I don't know how many screen capture utilities record surround sound.

If its plain analog stereo you shouldn't be having any problems with it.

The terminology you should be looking for is to record the "what u hear" sound. That is what is piped to your computer speakers.

Alright, sorry about that yoda313. I'll provide more detail.

My goal is simply to record some gameplay of a Wii game and upload it onto youtube. I've done it before with a previous computer I own and no longer use, which was a Sony VAIO about 10 years old now. The one I currently use is also a Sony VAIO but it was made in 2008.

I bought the hardware necessary for this. What I'm currently using is...

    1. The video capture device, which is a Dazzle DV70, connected from my computer via USB.

    2. Three cords, with one end being male and the other end being a male and female end. The male end is connected to the TV and the other ends are connected to the Dazzle and the Wii. I don't know the technical name for this, sorry.

The software I was using for the older computer was the Dazzle software, but I've since then lost it and cannot find it, although I still have and use the video capture device the Dazzle software came with. The software I now use is all free (as I do not really want to pay again for some good video capturing software). I've tried NHC's Debut, CamStudio, and Nero. Out of those three, I prefer Debut because of it's simplicity in design and ease of use. It's really easy and quick for me to do the basic things I need to do with it. However, for each of the software I have encountered the same problem, and that is no audio. It would seem that each software was not able to detect the audio that my computer supposedly comes equipped with. If I have speakers installed in my computer (which I do because I listen to music on my comp all the time) then why does the software not recognize the audio device?

In each of the software's options menus, there are specifications or settings on audio. In each case, the audio section was checked (meaning to activate audio) but the device section under never had any device named, and I think that's where the problem lies. It was always either blank or it said something like "Default."

Is this enough detail, or do you need more yoda313?

It sounds more like a dazzle driver issue cause you should be able to choose the dazzle as audio input, if you use the default it might use the computer mic input.

Are you using windows vista built in drivers for the dazzle or?
Tried find the dazzle capture software online?

And I would try capturing using latest Virtualdub or/and Windows Movie Maker.

I've been at this since I first posted here and I've finally found the problem: Vista has issues accepting certain USB devices, my Dazzle included. This is why the Dazzle wasn't able to be recognized by any software programs. I'll try VirtualHub to see if that works but if not then I am looking for another USB video capture device because I am tired of this.

Does anyone have any recommendations for USB video capture devices? The only requirement I have is that it support Vista and (hopefully) have a good support center in case I have any further issues.

Try hauppauge or pinnacle. Though I guess pinnacle hardware is being phased out. So try hauppuage.

Thanks for all of your help guys. Thank you too Yoda. I'm just going to get another device. I've learned a lot just by going through this big ordeal for the last week or so. Thanks again!
