  1. My DVD player only plays svcds (min: 200, avg 1785, max 2400). I have downloaded some svcd files, and they are encoded @ a slightly high bitrate and I was wondering if there was any way to reduce the bitrate to suit my player. Any help would be appreciated.

  3. You could re-encode them to a suitable bitrate using (for example) TMPGEnc.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  4. How would I keep it as an SVCD, but change the bitrate. Is there an option for that. If I change it to vcd, it will lose major quality.

  5. Re-encoding always loses you a smal amount of quality, but you won't lose much, since you only need to reduce the bitrate slightly. You'd just load an SVCD template, set the bitrate where you need it to be, and start encoding as a new file (use a different filename and it won't alter your old one).

There is a decent guide to TMPGEnc here:

  6. I will list the steps I took, and if you can, please tell me where I went wrong.

I was using the wizard by the way.

    1. I selected PAL SVCD on the first wizard screen.
    2. I selected the Video and Audio files.
    3. Left Source Range, Clip frames and noise reduction unchecked.
    4. Clicked Other Settings and changed the bitrate to 2400. I did not change anything else.
    5. On the final screen of the wizard, it said Estimated file size= 0.01MB. I don't know why.

    6. I clicked next, and it made an 18k video file. When I play it, only the first frame displays, and the movie stops.

    Any suggestions?
