    Hi,

Normally I download dvdrip movies (700mb), burn it and watch it on my home theater dvd player. If I watch it on my 32inch LCD TV the movie shows in the middle and not able to watch it in full screen. My Tv display setting is in 16:9 wide screen mode. But still middle part is used.

In Laptop I change the aspect ratio to 16:9 in Vlc player and watch the movies in full screen. But dont know what to do in LCD TV.

I want to watch all the movies in full screen mode. So please help me what do i need to do for full screen mode.

Is this because the movies are in 640*480 resolution mode ? Do I need to encode the dvdrip movies (Example: Axxo rips) to 720*480 res mode in AutoGK software to change the resolution to watch it in full screen ?

Any help would be highly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Basic rule don't download crap.

640 x 480 is either fullscreen, or widescreen done very badly.

Your TV should be set up to display 16:9, and your player should be set ti display 16:9 widescreen (not letterbox).

If your files are encoded correctly, they should not have any black bars. if they do, you will get black borders all around on your TV. You don't need to use 720 x nnn - 640 is enough, especially if you are going to starve the bitrate by encoding movies into a paltry 700 MB. I have seen some of these so-called AXXO files, and the quality, frankly, is very average, Worse when viewed on anything but a PC monitor. If you are encoding these files yourself, use AutoGK, load the IFO files, not the VOBs, and encode to quality, not to some arbitrary size.

  3. Isn't he just whining about so-called "fullscreen" AVI movies (640x480) playing on a widescreen TV set with pillarbars on the right and left sides?

If so, what's to complain about? You're seeing the entire movie the way it's meant to be seen. If you still want to have it fill the screen, use the zoom on the TV remote control and lose the top and bottom of the picture.

Why do you want to fill the screen, when there isn't picture to do so ?

Simple truth - widescreen movie on 4:3 TV = black bars top and bottom. 4:3 movie on widescreen TV = black bars left and right. Anything else is simply cropping off picture.

If you really must do this, set your TV to 4:3 and the image will probably stretch from side to side. It will look like crap and be all distorted, but at least it will fill the screen and you will feel that you are getting your money's worth out of your TV.

If the image is not 1.778 : 1 (16:9) then you will get black bars somewhere to fill out the screen. That is just the way it is. If the video is interesting to you then you shouldn't notice the shape of the image or the bars. If the bars are bugging you then obviously the movie is not holding your interest, and you need to find something else to do instead.
