When I drop the file into ffmpegX it says "Unrecognized" in the from box and no video and no audio. When i click encode the progress bar quickly finishes and dings but then no file is anywhere to be found, when i click the i i get this message.

Please verify that the target framerate is correctly set (in the Video tab). Pick a framerate preset (NTSC (29.97)) or type in a number.

Some modules in ffmpegX have trouble with folder names that have apostrophes ('), as the apostrophe can be mis-interpreted as the start of a quote, without end marker. It is best to avoid folder names like "Brad's Camera" because of this.

thanks for the tips, i changed the framerate to 29.97 option and it didnt work but the PAL option did, i then had to redo it because the aspect ratio was different, i also changed the name of the file folder to eliminate apostrophes thanks alot for the useful info.
