I have a 3 month old US model Phillips DVP5990 player. About every 30 minutes the video cuts out, black screen, for about 2 seconds then comes back. The video is still in time with the audio when it comes back. The audio doesn't miss a beat. This is while playing any of my .avi videos. Factory firmware.
Any idea on what's going on and any way to fix it?
Thanks

I've not tried from USB. It's only happening with discs as far as I know. Connected with HDMI from the DVD to reciever to TV. Hmm..., could possibly be the switching in the reciever too, huh.
I'm going to try another HDMI input on the reciever to try to rule it out.
I flashed the firmware on the 5990 yesterday to 1.2.1. No change in video cutting out randomly. -
I think I might have discovered what's going on. Seems the 5990 is very sensitive to static electricity or the player being powered from a non grounded outlet. Maybe the rotating dvd disc is creating a static build up inside the player somewhere and discharging. When it does, the picture drops out. If when I walk up to the player and touch it and static from me discharges to the player, the picture drops out.
All of the outlets in my home are 2 prong only, none are 3 prong grounded type. I had the player power cord plugged in to one of my recievers switched outlets. I removed it and plugged it into the power strip I have some of my other components on, tho it's still only plugged into a 2 prong outlet. But since doing so, I haven't had the video drop out. As before, I couldn't watch a disc without the video dropping out every 10 seconds, it was getting that bad.
I need to talk to an electrician to see if there's any way of grounding the electrical in my home, without tearing out the walls to replace the wiring.
