In Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5, in the media encoder, under pre-encoding task, you can select "scale".
Under audience, you can enter a frame size.
What is the difference between these two?

I could be wrong, but I think 'scale' changes the output resolution of the actual video itself, while 'frame size' only changes the display height and width (ie., it results in a letterbox effect, causing black bars to appear without the video resolution actually being altered). I just checked in Premiere Pro 2.0 and they don't seem to have these settings laid out the same. Which video format are you exporting to?

Windows Media player plays it at widescreen.
In QuickTime, it tells me that my video size is 853 x 480 (close to 16:9) <--- this is the video captured by premiere without encoding (when you capture it creates a .avi video file). -
wmv is a highly compressed final viewing format which youtoob will happily re-encode yet again...highly compressed formats don't take kindly to re-encoding
YouTube accepts a wide range of video file formats such as .WMV, .AVI, .MOV, and .MPG transferred from most digital cameras, camcorders, and cell phones. -
you need to use an editor like vegas pro 8 that has settings for DVavi wide pixel mode. then you can have it encode to anything and the result will be in widescreen. for youtube i'd go with 1280x720p h264 5-10mbps and aac audio. that way you'll get the view as HD link and a higher quality video posted.
