I'm looking for a printer to print directly on CD/DVD and, from what I've read on this forum and elsewhere, I think I'd like a Canon. It looks like the mod to enable the function is pretty straight forward. I see some references to the IP4500 in this forum but none to the newer IP4600. I'd appreciate comments from anyone who has used it or knows about it.
I won't use the printer often (once a week to once a month) so would be concerned about ink drying out - apparently a serious problem with Epson. I'm also concerned about ink smearing or coming off the CD/DVD when moist. I've seen references here to TY Watershield blanks and would use either them or Verbatim. I would occasionally print photos too and, for that, would like very long lasting ink.
Would appreciate any info/feedback from anyone.
Thanks

Thanks. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with one. Real user feedback - like we get on forums like this - counts more then the advertising.

i've been using an ip4000 for years now. decent enough printer and with the cd tray mod it prints nicely on cd/dvd. like the epsons or any other inkjet it needs to be used everyday or the ink will dry in the heads. heads are separate from the tanks and cleanable in alcohol, if they clog.

Thanks again, aedipuss. I've only had one inkjet printer - an HP 932C - which I've had for a number of years. I use it infrequently - sometimes 2-3 weeks between use - and it has never clogged a nozzle. Do you think HP is better at not clogging then Epson or Canon or do you think I've just been lucky? I've used both HP and Office Depot ink cartridges in it. It still works fine but now I want to be able to print on CD/DVD - and it would be nice to also be able to print pictures that would not fade.
I want very much to have good ink that will be resistant to smearing on CD/DVD from moisture but, because of my infrequent use, I'm concerned about clogging too. Maybe I should get an HP 5360 or something.Rich -
hp i believe has the nozzle heads built into the cartridge so they may not dry out like a system with separate tank/head units. i know this canon of mine would be unusable in 2-3 weeks without printing.
