    Hello everyone,

I have got a series of avi files that seem to have been encoded strangely or something, but they just wont play on my mvix media player.

Most other types of avi files play flawlessly, these ones play for a bit then either lose sound or start jumping like freezing then going freezing then going.

So my guess is that the kind of encoding whoever made them did is weird or something.
I dont know how to find out what they are encoded as or whatnot.

So i am asking the knowledgable people of this forum how can i re encode them to somehting more mainstream? something that will play.
hopefully they will be quick to encode cause they dont have to be changed to a diff format i.e. mpg to avi or whatnot.

    Thank you all

g-spot, mediainfo or video inspector are all good at telling you what is in your avi files, and how they have been encoded. Start by comparing know, working files with some of the problem files. Post screenshots if you are having trouble reading them output

    Thanks for that,

I downloaded video inspector and they all seem to be the same.

    Number 13 freezes
    Number 16 looses sound
    number 6 works fine.

So i am completely lost as to what to do here?

Any help appreciated, i just wanna make them work.
    Edit: forgot the screenshot

    Cheers

I can play them on my PC, but i have an mvix (www.mvixusa.com) and its stuffing up on it, so im just wanting to re encode them so they will play like 95% of the other things i have.

AVI Recomp will re-encode them to the standard lowest common denominator format. If you can, check these files in g-spot so you can see if they use GMC, Qpel or packed bitstreams.

They all look to be encoded correctly for standalone playback, with all of them being encoded with the same version of software and same settings. Which would imply that there is something else wrong with the files, or they simply did not transfer correctly to your player. Try re-encoding one of them and see if it a) can be re-encoded, and if it can, b) can it be played in the player ?
