to make 5.1 surround you need to have 6 separate wav files or a 6 channel wav/aiff to start with. use ac-3 2ch. for stereo sources.

Don't bother. If you don't understand that a video file with sound means it has an audio component, then trying to mix 5.1 is going to be beyond your skills.

Instead, use DVD Flick to encode your video files and tick the Upmix function under preferences.

The guide I posted (above) shows you how to create the 6 wav files that you need, using a stereo source.

Honestly, unless you really have a need, it isn't worth doing.

You might look at DAudioK, which can create a 5.1 AC3 track from a stereo track using a similar method to DVD Flick.

Vegas is designed to properly mix 5.1 audio track from separate audio elements, not stereo MP3 tracks. Also, using compressed audio like MP3 as source is less than ideal, as the compression levels used for most AVI files muddies what stereo separate there was to begin with.

Will you please tell me where the VST folder is? Pressing Ctrl + Alt + 1 , shows the folders but I still can't find them using Windows Explorer. Does anyone know why? Thanks a lot.

    hi
i use your guide to make 5.1 mixing
however, in sony vegas mixing part,
after all editing at rendering choosing dolby digital .ac3 file type
it does not show template for this. at template space it show no existing template for this type
and if press save it show format not supported of given media
i have sony vegas pro 8
    what should i do next?
    did my .ac3 plugin missed?
if yes where should i get it?

AC3 is not standard in Vegas unless you buy the plugin or have DVD Architect installed.
