I've been out of the vcd game for a few months, and i seem to have forgotten all the tips I got for encoding. Now i remember being told not to bother using the NTSC template that comes with tmpgenc since it sells you short, but i do remember one particular one coming up quite often. Does anybody have any suggestions???

there's no such thing as the "best" template. it all depends on what you're trying to accomplish, how long your source is, whether you feel the need to try to cram 2 hours on 1 disc...besides, quality is a very subjective thing anyway. In general, if your standalone can handle it, I would recommend doing VBR SVCD, that way you can make the best, and most efficient use of your bitrate, and still get very good quality. I would spend some time looking through the guides here, and then probably just do some experimenting with small test clips, and, if your player supports it, burn to CDRW, that way you can do all the testing you want and not waste discs.
