VDecoder init failed?Newbie needs help!

I've read and tried all means discussed in the forum but none of them seem to work!
Downloaded the codecs and reallib files, checked the invert mapping box, and when I finally tried to convert my .rmvb video to .mp4 with mencoder, it took 3 seconds to finish encoding but the file is invalid.

mplayer works perfectly well with the videos and I have no idea on what's going wrong. Here's the info log, would greatly appreciate if anyone can help me with this. Thank you

Downloaded the codecs and reallib files

Did you download the Intel reallib files? The link on the website is for PowerPC, which won't work on Intel. The Intel reallib file are not pre-packaged, but is an installer for MPlayerOSX GUI. The installed files have to be moved for ffmpegX's mplayer to use them.

That box is only useful for encoding using the ffmpeg engine; not for the mencoder/mplayer engine. Reallib is a decoder plug-in for mplayer, so you never need ffmpeg options for Real files.

Are you sure it finished? Mencoder/mplayer always starts out by trying decoders until it finds one that works, so many logs of successful encodings will show "VDecoder init failed". The Progress window should show "Finished!" or "Failed", along with a sound if it is done. Notice how the log continues after the error. You may be right, but in the past some users were not patient enough to notice an ongoing process. Just checking...

I'm getting similar results-- the .rmvb file will play correctly in mplayer (via ffmpegx), so I believe the reallib folder is in the proper place, but when I encode, I get an almost instant ding and Progress.app indicates the encoding is finished. Any suggestions on what I should try?
