  1. can anyone offer some advice here? i'm so frustrated. i have an Epson R200 from a few years ago but when i moved to another city i bought a R260. i brought it back home with me, only to find that over time the ink has been disappearing in it and i've barely used the darn thing. so i have two epson printers here now. today i'm finding out that there is no SSC utility support for 260(to freeze the levels), and also there's some sort of chip game going on with epson now with this printer.

so if you had your choice, which printer would you spend most of your time on getting cleaned and working properly? maybe installing a CIS on? the problem is i use these printers sporatically and i think that's why i have such bad luck with them. or should i look into another brand of printer for printing on discs?

I picked up one of these HP's from our local Officemax for 39 bucks. I am very pleased with it.

hey thanks for the suggestion. here in canada the prices i've searched are a bit more expensive - around $110+
have you had to refill the ink on it yet? if so how much does that cost and is there a lot of 3rd party ink available?

The HPD5160 unit uses the 95/98 ink cartridges. I think they offer a good yield, outstanding print quality and are very easy to refill. I am in the inkjet remanufacturing business, have gallons of high quality OCP ink and hundreds of cartridges available to me so the consumable costs are negligible.

With proper care you should expect many refills from a single cartridge.

last night i found this HP printer on sale for $75. i think it's the same one you are referring to but up in canada. I checked the HP refills before I bought it and it's $40 for the full refill which is outstanding compared to Epson who are charging about $120 for a full refill of their latest models' refills.

i have high hopes for this HP printer cause nothing could be worse than my Epson experience. I plan on doing a small print once a week to make sure the printer stays active. I also bought an extra one year service plan for $10 should things get crazy.

thank you for the recommendation and i'll report back here on how it goes.
