I've ordered my GTX 260 and was hoping I could get some help one whether or not I need a new power supply.

Also some detailed info on how to disable the on board graphics would be great too. I have an idea on how to but I would like to be sure.

    System:

    CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 630 Processor, MMX, 3DNow (4 CPUs), ~2.8GHz
MOBO: ASRock K10N78 NVIDIA GeFoce 8200 Chipset
    PS: 550 Watt
OS: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3, 32bit
    Memory: 3328MB RAM
    Hard Drive: 200 GB
    Graphics:BFG NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 OC MAXCORE 55 896MB GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0

No link for power supply but I got the best picture I could without having to remove it.

    I have whats required for
the dual 4-pin peripheral to single 6-pin PCI Express power adapter but I think the 12V current rating of 38A or more may have me beat... I don't know much about power supply's but it seems that I have exactly what is required. I'm not sure if it will be ok since I have two cd/dvd drives, a pretty large heatsink/ fan, quad core, and the other computer essentials.

Please tell me I'm wrong and this will work for me. I'm not looking forward to having to spend more money for a PS.

    Thanks for any help

    That easy?

I read somewhere that I need to uninstall everything nvidia on my computer first. Does that need to be done also?

Usually you will not need to disable the on-board Video.... just uninstall your Current Display Driver then shut off the PC install the new card and boot up and then install the new driver and your done... Usually the mother board will auto switch to PCI-e or Onboard when it detects a monitor hooked to it. Your Power Supply should be ok with that card specially if you only have 1 hard drive and optical drive. This is based on the experience I had on building PC's. It may not be correct way of doing it but it works for me.

Lol, I will just so happen to be getting that game too. I may wait until I update my OS but we'll see.

I rarely play any other game besides the SOF 2 but with the new card I may play CODMW2 and the other new one's some more since it won't skip on me. Plus the new card I'm getting and the one your getting will keep us from having to update for a while. Hopefully... you'll have the DirectX 11 but I'm not sure how much of a difference there is.

Thats what almost made me buy the ATI card I was looking at.

I will be working on getting a ATI 5850 myself, I have right now a GTX260 and it plays pretty good but still has issues with ArmA II. I hope the ATI 5850 will resolve that.

When i joined a server it was at max 32 player... this was just last week when i tried it out, Rumors have it that it going to be cut down to a 24 player slot (12 vs 12) But who knows they may change there mind, to me it may be a waist of money just like CODMW2. I wished I would have never bought the game. To bad i cannot sell it, reason being its tied into my Steam account. Oh well...

    Just an update on this:

I got my GTX 260 and did the install, no display.. Called tech support (which was great) and figured out my PS is not hefty enough for this card after all, just what I was afraid of.

He helped me figure out how to read a PS ( I didn't know much about them) and I guess you look under +12 1 and 2 and add the amps or A which were 18A and 18A if you look back at the pictures. That adds up to 36A and the card required a minimum of 38A and apparently a minimum of 550 watts have to be supporting those 38A but the 550 watts are divided throughout the PS.

No worries though, 700 watt is on the way and I hope this helps someone

I have a geforce 275, a geat card. For me I would add a second if I could get one cheaply, but these things are pretty hard to find, and if you find one, they are too expensive. I've thought about an ATI 5850, but not enough of an improvement for the added expense, and just for adding direct X11 is not a good enough reason. I may have to waite for newer deforce cards, and or a drop in price on the ATI cards.

my card qualifies for the step up program so I may be getting the 275 also. Just have to send back the card with about an extra $45. I also thought about ATI too until I thought about how directX 11 is worthless to me and that nvidia has been so good to me. Also I read some customer reviews on the ATI cards and that steered me away also.

I've used ATI & NVidea cards for years, and the one thing that Nvidea has going for it, are their drivers, which are way better. With ATI, I always seem to have to "hold my breath", when ever I upgrade them hoping that there is not a glitch. I also agree, right now directX offers really nothing now. The 275 is a beast, very fast!
