Okay so here's the problem I have...
I'm doing a lot of video for the web currently and I need to deinterlace the mofo -- but I'm having big issues with it.
Here's the current workflow:
edit in final cut
export using the default "quick time movie" setting
open that file -- make sure the file is in the proper widescreen aspect ratio
export for "ipod"
this results in great file size and great compression -- however it's full of interlacing.
So whats the best way around this? Deinterlace in finalcut first?
I tried Visual Hub but it tends to leave an ugly streak across the whole video -- it isn't all that noticeable except during scenes with lots of black.
I tried JES Deinterlacer and I was thinking it would work great... but it crashes everytime I start converting... perhaps because I have leopard.
So can anyone help me out?

I was going to suggest JES, oh well.
What format is the FCP project? DV?Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

yup - DV shot in 16:9 -- so its a widescreen project. not letterboxed but actual widescreen.

Are you using QT Pro to make the iPod conversion?
Deinterlacing should be occurring in FCP before export...
is your timeline in FCP JUST video, or is there some stills
(jpgs, PSD,tiffs) in the timeline?
if so, what I do is run the Deinterlacing filter on those first,
before my export to QT .mov.
I use Visual Hub for making my videos for iPod, and I
choose:
to: Itunes
Optimize for: ipod 5G
Quality: Standard
under advanced tab, I can select Deinterlace if needed be to
deinterlace the video. try that."Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."

When I'm not here, Where can I be found?

well i tried visual hub before (though i was using "all devices", "h.264 encoding", and "go nuts") but the result was the weird streaks in the black scenes.
i'll try de-interlacing beforehand in final cut then use the regular QT PRO export for iPod and see how it looks - i wanted to avoid this option because im using magic bullet and that in combination with deinterlace fives me render times around 10 hours or more lol.
UPDATE: Just tried with settings mentioned above and still get the nasty streakies...:: ehmjay. -
A work around since it is for iPod, drop a field to 720x240 then export. You may need to resize to 352x240 to get aspect ratio right.
Downside is you lose some vertical resolution and half motion updates but it wouldn't be noticed on the iPod screen but will if you output iPod to a TV.
Advantage is elimination of streaks.
On the PC I have many deinterlace options but my experience with FCP is limited to the internal deinterlace or JES.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

mpeg streamclip has deinterlacing available I think. I have only really used JES Deinterlacer so I may be out of luck too if it's not Leopard compatible.
