DVD audio cleaning

Can anyone offer any advice on cleaning up a dvd audio track...............i have ripped a VHS tape, encoded it, and dvd authored it into a DVD file, but the audio has a hiss which i think has been picked up off the VHS player, and i need to clean the track on the VOB file...............is there a tool that will do this, I have tried to clean it as a standard audio file when it came out of TMPGnc but then DVD AUTHOR wont accept it, and as the VHS is 2.5 hours long i really dont want to re-rip and encode it!!!!!

ripped a VHS video, encoded it with TMPGnc into a MOVIE(mpg) file and an AUDIO file (wav), then used DVD AUTHOR to create a DVD file.............Its then i noticed the audio track had a noise on it (the noise is from the source vhs rip). I then used a program called SPIN IT AGAIN, which really cleaned up the audio well, then I saved the cleaned file as the same name as the original wav file from the encoded video. SO i thought this would go straight into TMPGnc DVD AUTHOR............BUT when the video and audio file is opened in DVD AUTHOR, there is no sound at all. So what i need to do is clean the DVD file audio track if at all possible.

This is the kind of thing you should so before you start editing or authoring. Clean up your assets and have it all ready to go. Fixing it up afterwards is always difficult because you have lost one generation already to compression, and will lose another when you recompress, and you still have the whole demux / remux issue with the DVD structure.

Personally, I would use DGIndex to demux the audio and video form the DVD. I would then use an audio editor to clean up the audio track (Sound Forge, Audacity, Audition, Gold Wave etc), encode the clean audio to AC3, then author a new disc using an authoring tool that won't re-encode. GUIForDVDAuthor is free and capable.

Please excuse my nieveity, but DGINDEX, seems a little confusing to a simpleton like me, as it looks to have quite a few download files etc etc, When you say DEMUX do you mean DEMULTIPLEX as i have tried to do that using TMPGnc EXPRESS, but i wont open the dvd files. Or if i am completely wrong, is there a more simple tool to DEMUX the dvd files. as i say please excuse my lack of knowledge

Try PGCDemux instead. Yes, it means DeMUltipleX. You have to get the audio out to work on it, then put it back later. I don't know why Tmpgenc Xpress doesn't like the disc.

Once the audio is OUT and CLEANED, can i then MUX it back and RE-AUTHOR it...............thanks very much for sticking with me on this

Quick update, i actually had the video and audio outputted separately from TMPGnc so i already have a video and audio file, I have then cleaned the audio and then MUXED the two, ie a video file and an mp3 file, BUT DVD AUTHOR will not accept the muxed file,

MP3 isn't a DVD audio format. You may use either uncompressed audio, AC3 (dolby digital), mpeg1-layer2 (mp2) or DTS. For the greatest compatibility, I would suggest AC3.

Looks like i, or rather you have sorted it, i cleaned the audio, then converted it ino MP2 format using FFMPGui , then MUXED them togther in TMPGnc Plus. So i hope its all ok now, But i really appreciate your help on this matter. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!!!!!!
