If i were to use a Pci express x1/x16 slot lan card, instead of plugging into my regular network card, would my internet connection move somewhat quicker?

I doubt it would make any difference to a internet connection. It might help throughput over the LAN to your other computers, depending on the rest of your system. I have all Gigabit LAN cards, router and switch, but they make no difference in internet connection speed as the next bottleneck is my modem and it's connection to the internet.

A fast internet connection could be something like 10Mb/s and that would still be within the capabilities of the average 10/100Mb/s card.
