  1. I recently bought a Dazzle PCi video capture card. It requires an audio input to it from a sound card but I don't have a free PCI slot so I can't capture any sound. I have been thinking of buying a PCI Express sound card as I have a free slot for that. There aren't many of them around though.
    What should I do?

I'm guessing you're capturing analog video through the breakout box, rather than by firewire. If your camera has the capability to output via firewire, just use that - you shouldn't need to connect to your sound card in that case.

Failing that, if the PCIe slot is the only thing you have open, what else can you do but either free up a PCI slot or get an express sound card? Those seem like the only options.

I'm confused. If you have on-board sound on your motherboard, you probably have a audio in (CD-IN) socket on the motherboard. DVD drives don't use that, so it should be available. Some also have an additional LINE-IN on the MB. This is assuming a video card that also has a internal audio output. The ones I have used came with the internal cable.

Failing that, a PCI slot audio card would work, but using the existing audio setup would be a lot easier.

Or am I misunderstanding what you are trying to do? What model of Dazzle card do you have? A link to the product page would be helpful.

There aren't many PCI Express X1 audio cards out there.

    A few PCIe options:
    - ASUS Xonar DX 7.1 PCI-e
    - ASUS Xonar D2X PCI-e
    - ASUS Xonar Essence STX PCI-e
    - Cretive Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCI Express
    - Creative PCI Express Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium
    - Creative PCI Express Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Professional Series

I think you shuld just use the internal audio as redwudz noted before.

Before this can even be answered, you might want to update your systems profile

  7. I have ATI AIW and the sound goes into line in of the sound card on the back all MB have it, if yours don't have the wire you need a audio cable just plug it in. If you buy a sound card it would be the same deal. On some MB if you plug in the extra PCIe it takes bandwidth from your video.
Also FYI I bought this Auzentech which I regret it has Dolby live and all but it has a spyware thats part of the deal and reports everything you do to creative and Auzentech I saw it when I wanted to click on I accept installing the software, they don't tell you when you are buying it and it is not posted either. I firewalled every element of its software but it is annoying anything you do it fires up the reporting exe and it has a license manager too. I thought when you buy a hardware it should just have drivers not spyware!
