    Hi,

I was wondering if it was possible to rip bluray movies with the ps3 and then watch them from the hard drive of the ps3. I already think it is possible i read a few guides from other forums

What im hoping someone can tell me is can i watch these bluray back ups in full 1080p mode and with one click. I heard of splitting the movies into chunks or something but was hoping i can just backup my movies to the hd and rename them to the movie title and just have to open one file to watch the whole movie. can any one enlighten me or is this a complicated method.

I have never heard of anyone ripping a BluRay disc on anything but a PC. Perhaps you are right as I don't keep up with BluRay, but most likely you are misunderstanding what you read. You'd have to replace the OS on the PS3 to be able rip - that much I can guarantee you.

Can you do this with one click? Nope. The process is complicated. There is no easy way to do this. There is some commercial product that claims to be able to defeat the latest and greatest BluRay copy protection. You'll need it. I don't remember the name of it. I'm not aware of any freeware tools that can defeat the most recent copy protection. I suggest you go to doom9 as Baldrick suggests if you really want to do this, but it's not easy. Also note that playback of ripped discs is difficult. You'll need a specific version of PowerDVD for playback (the most recent version won't play BluRay on a hard disk at all, so you need an older version) or you'll have to follow some complicated instructions at Doom9 on how to install some stuff and make WMP Classic do the job.

It's my limited understanding that BluRay discs often rip into multiple chunks and this seems to be confusing for some people. What you want to do will require an awful lot of work. Do note that while Doom9 people are really smart and they can be helpful, they don't often like to help people who are too lazy to read any of their guides. You'll do better there is you have specific questions like "Step 9 in Guide A didn't work for me. I got this error message - xxxxxxx" rather than saying "How do I rip a BluRay disc on my PS3?", which just shows them that you are too lazy to do any reading on your own.

A follow up to my post in case the original poster is still reading...

The Doom9 website reported on the Dec. 31 news that Slysoft (they make a program that can decrypt BluRay and HD-DVD) has yet to provide any evidence that they can actually crack the current state of the art BluRay encryption other than a press release saying so. More and more titles will surely use this encryption and unless it gets cracked this will have a negative effect on your ripping plans.
