    Hi,
being new in the BD ripping I walked for days now through all kind of threads trying to find a solution how to playback my BD copies, stored on harddisk, on my PS3.

AnyDVDHD, TSmuxer etc. are familiar, but any try with e.g. Tversity, MP11, Nero Home 4 failed (most cases I just receive an error message from PS3 like 'data defect'.
I read about things like RipBot or making AVCHDs (and converting from x to z to y, taking a full night), things like 'it works fine with Codec A, perhaps with Codes B, never with Codec C'.
Simple minded I look for something that either
    a. ideally access direct my PC devices (ISO, file structure m2ts) from PS3 OR
    b. streams m2ts to PS3 (regardless if it's VC1 or not), being able to use rudimentary controls like audio switching, stop, rewind OR
    c. uses an USB harddisk, which stores my ~40 m2ts, conecting it to PS3.

You guys do a brilliant job in supporting others, so perhaps I might have hope to find a solution.

    best regards
    GGA

Try ps3 media server. It claims to support m2ts.

    Baldrick, thanks for the hint.
I tested it out but unfortunately on BD's it fails (stuttering playback with 90% CPU load -AMD 6000+ system- ).

Any further suggestion would be great (this shouldn't be a uncommon request: millions of people do have a PS§ and a PC with medias on it ...)

    regards

I tried streaming both my converted HD-DVD films and BD films to PS3 for over a year - I never really got a satisfactory result that didn't take hours of preparation in advance (removing unwanted audio and subtitle streams etc.).

Save your time and sainity and just play the original BD disk - it's a lot less hassle.
    Regards,

I am also working on streaming my Blu-Ray Backups from my server to the PS3.

I have successfully streamed backups of all 3 Pirates of the Carribean movies and the Spiderman Blu-Ray that came with my PS3.

    1) Decrypt with AnyDVD
2)Remux Main movie m2ts to remove unwanted tracks.
    3) Serve up from Linux Box with TwonkyVision MediaServer 4.2.2

The PS3 will typically play the h264 M2TS files directly from the backup.
Problems I still need to solve:
    A) Dealing with movies where the main movie consists of multple M2TS. (Enchanted)
    B) VC1 encoded movies (Dark Knight)

Granted the PS3 has limited functionality when streaming (FF/REW are iffy at best, no chapters, etc) but the video and audio results are considerably better than my DVD collection. When they get the PS3 to be able to read the Blu-Ray file structure with FF/REW/Chapter functionality all will be good. The current state of the PS3 reminds me of what I went through with the D-Link DSM320 three years ago with my DVD collection.

I have no issues streaming m2ts files created with either TSMuxer or Xvid4PSP using PS3 Media Server over wireless, up to 720p. Much bigger and wireless is a bit iffy. These do not need to be transcoded at all, so PS3MS's CPU utilization is minimal.

My PS3 also has no problems playing these files from DVD5/9.

I have had a couple of MP4 files come up as bad data on first attempt at streaming, but usually a restart of the media server software gets them happening, and in one or two cases I have simply repacked them to m2ts and had no further problems.

I have settled on a workflow to get all of my Blu-Ray and HD-DVD titles to my server to stream to my PS3 using Twonky. The process uses all free tools and while it is not a single button press it is fairly straightforward.

    1. Decrypt to harddisk : DumpHD (free) or AnyDVDHD
    2. Demux Primary Video and Audio : eac3to or TSMuxer
    a. Convert 30 fps and remove puldown flags from video.
    b. Strip TrueHD from audio stream and keep 6ch.
    3. If Audio is EAC3 convert to AC3 : eac3to
    4. If Video is VC-1 convert to h.264 : RipBot264 or MeGui (overnight process)
    5. Remux .264 video with AC3 audio and off you go. (eac3to, TSMuxer)

When converting VC-1 video with RipBot I have done 2-pass with AVB 10Mbps and Single Pass CQ 18, 20, 22. I have decided to do all of my encoding with single pass CQ 20 because the 2 pass takes way too long and frankly I cannot tell the difference between the two quality wise and I could not justify making the h.264 file bigger than the VC-1 file when I used a CQ of 18.

So far, all of my HD-DVDs and one Blu-Ray that I have to re-encode to h.264 have taken less than 10 hours on my AM9550 Quad with 4GB. All overnight jobs and they all pay flawlessly on my PS3.
