Where can I buy (in USA) Verbatim DVD+R DL made in Singapore?
I've tried the made in India kind from two different sources (Rima and MicroCenter) but after 100+ burns am getting 5-10% coasters, so I don't want to buy any more of those!

I got my Verbatim DVD+R DL MIS disks at Micro Center here in the Philadelphia area. They were in 15 disk packs. They also had 20 packs of the +R DL that were MII. The 15 packs happened to be on sale at the time I was there - cheaper per disk than the 20 packs. Haven't been back lately so I don't know if the MIS disks are still in stock.

Thanks for the info. I must order online or by mail because there are no local stores selling DVD blank media except Walmart, Kmart, Sears, Radio Shack, and of that type, and most of them don't even stock Verbatim discs. We have no local or nearby Best Buy, Micro Center, and those kinds of stores.

I think Verbatim uses the ORANGE label on their MIS disks - but I could be wrong.
Unfortunately right now they show at $40 - I paid $27 when they were on sale. Even that is expensive per disk but I wanted to get some known good disks to test out the DL burning capability of a new Pioneer 112D writer I had just bought. Bought three packs so I would have some on hand.

  5. It's sad that the only known good quality DL discs are starting to go downhill. I never had a Verbatim coaster until they started making them in India.
Sadly, I don't know of any way to order them online now that will guarantee you'll receive MIS.

Wouldn't it be great if TY made DLs?!

I often wonder why Taiyo Yuden never got into blank DL DVD media.

I have to admit I've never bought nor burned a DL DVD because I was afraid of making coasters and at the price they want ... as for making coasters I have one of the very first Pioneer DVD burners that supported DL DVD so I don't know how "good" it is hence my holding off.

I figure when I finally get a new more modern DL capable burner that I would try then but the burner I have works fine so I just never got around to buying a new one.

DVD Rebulder Pro and CCE SP are my friends for DVD9 to DVD5 conversions

I've emailed and phoned Micro Center about this, and they refuse to distinguish between the India and Singapore discs. Rima responded to my email query and said all of theirs are made in India. So that rules out both of those sources for online orders...

If you have a BEST BUY near you then you might want to try there as I've seen Verbatim DVD+R DL discs at my local BEST BUY stores.

Also I noticed that this week BEST BUY has TDK DVD+R DL discs on sale but I've never heard anything ... good or bad ... about TDK DVD+R DL media. The price is nice though ... 25 pack for only $27.99 + sales tax + shipping.

I have always assumed it was one or both of the following possibilities.
    1) They regard the DL format as fairly bogus (It's very different from how single layer discs work) and don't want to touch it.
    2) There are way too many manufacturing problems on these discs for them to be interested in making them. I suspect that the error rates are still quite high, although probably better than the early days when Verbatim was having to throw away 1/2 of the DL discs that came off the production lines.

And now in reference to other posts...

The MicroCenter price is truly HORRIBLE for DL media. At that price, I would honestly suggest buying the Indian Verbatim DVD+R DL discs from a much cheaper source because you'd come out better, even with a few coasters. It would also truly suck to mail order the discs and pay this terrible price and then find out you've got Made In India media.

I've been using the MII Verbatim DVD+R DL for a while now because they are the only Verbatim DVD+R DL discs I can get. They mostly seem OK. I've had a few problems with them, but in my experience they don't seem to be any worse for me than the Made In Singapore ones. DL media is not perfect and every now and then you're just going to get a bad one. That's just how it is.

I see $27.99 on MicroCenter for Verbatim DLs, 20 pk spindle.

Where is a much cheaper source?

Grant it, I think $27.99 is still a lot to pay for 20 discs but it's better than the $35 on up price I usually see.
If they didn't cost so much, maybe the few coasters from the MII wouldn't be quite as upsetting.

The link in on30trainman's post is for $39.95 for a 15 pack. That's why I said it was it was horrible. Better prices are available at http://www.rima.com and http://www.newegg.com and many other places. Even Best Buy, rarely a bargain for DL media, can probably beat that price. Good for you that found another link at MicroCenter that's cheaper.

JohnnyBob asked for a source of MIS Verbatim DL disks which is why I posted the link I did to the 15 pack. All the 15 packs in stock at my local MicroCenter at the time I bought mine were MIS, while all the 20 packs were MII. When I bought my 15 packs they were on sale for $27 or so - the price per disk at that price was lower than the MII. May give the MII a try later, but after I check out my replacement 112D writer (Pioneer CD read/write problem) with the MIS disks - got no coasters with MIS DL in the original 112D drive.
