Hello all,

I've encountered a (what seems to me) rather strange problem when trying to record a video file to a DVD on my Linux box.

I have several video files encoded in mpeg-4. The videos can be played back from the hard-drive with no problem. However, after I burn the videos on a DVD media and play them back, there appear to be minor corruptions resulting in distorted video in some places. For instance, xine reports the following types of errors:

So far I have confirmed that the files recorded on the DVD differ in some places from the ones on the hard-drive by running a 'diff' on them. Is this related to the way the data is structured on the DVD?!

The setup I am using is as follows:

Linux Debian 2.6.18-5-k7
ABIT NF7-S with Sil 3112A SATA onboard
Plextor PX-716 (SATA)
wodim 9:1.1.6-1 (have also tried dvd+rw-tools with the same effect)

The drive works fine as far as playing back rental DVD's .
I have also tried to record CD's with no problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated (as I am running out of space on my hard-drive and really need to back up all these videos). Are there other forums/newsgroups that might be helpful?
