  1. I transfered my VHS onto my Samsung V330 DVD recorder with a DVD+R disc so that I could load it into my computer to edit and make a new DVD. However no program, including TMPG Author trial version, Cyberlink or Roxio will edit it. I saw someone else on this site complain about the same problem with the same DVD recorder. Is there a problem with Samsung recorders or do you have to do something particular to be able to edit on a computer? If it is the machine is there one that works?

The DVD has the regular TS folder containing the usual files [it plays fine in my regular DVD player through the TV] and in TMPG I used the Source Wizard to import the DVD, but it would either say that there were no files or that it couldn't import them. Does it matter whether the DVD is finalized or not? Would it be better if I used DVD-R? I'd be willing to buy a new DVD Recorder if someone said for sure that the Samsung V330 has a problem. I'm somewhat concerned that someone else here had the same problem with the same machine.
I also used ISO Buster to extract the VOB files and changed the extension to mpg and then tried to edit the mpg. They played fine with Crystal Player but no editor would edit them.

Yes. It makes all the difference. Finalize before attemting to do anything with the disk.

Not a good idea. It only fools and confuses the applications you use. If you want mpg, try vob2mpg to extract the mpg out of the VOB(s).

  5. If you want mpg, try VOB2MPG to extract the mpg out of the VOB(s).

I used VOB2MPG and it just said "processed 0 VOB sets in .1 sec" and did nothing.
I just noticed that when I try to play the DVD through DVD Player software that came with the computer, it says "format not supported" even though it has played other DVD's. This is strange since it plays fine through the TV on a regular DVD player.

Use DVD Decrypter in IFO mode. Nothing is as reliable as it is.

  7. Thanks everyone! I used DVD Decrypter to copy the VOB files to disc and then DVD2MPG to make an mpg, and now I can edit with Roxio.
