Hi all I've got an odd problem. I tried to watch a DVD on my linux computer the other day (Hairspray) and it would not play. When I tried to open the dvd file structure it would not read it, however if I read the same disk on the same drive on the same computer using virtualbox with XP installed on it, the dvd is read perfectly. I don't get it, any way I can get some help with this? Thanks

    Hi,
What linux player were you using? The most likely cause is that the libdvdcss your player is using cannot handle the latest DVD Copy Protections. If you are using VLC I've noticed it sometimes won't play certain DVD's very well. The solution is probably to wait for libdvdcss to catch up with the latest encryption schemes. This is the price we get to pay for rampant piracy !

  4. I use kubuntu 7.10 and use kaffeine to play DVDs with no problem. First you have to confirm that you have installed libdvdcss3 and the codecs to view your DVD (as already told by my seniors).
