    Hello

I'm working in after effects. I have video 29.97 seperated by lower fields. I want to work in 23.976 because it will be quicker to render however I can't sync the audio. I converted the frame rate to 23.976 in the interpret footage window. I dragged the the video to the timeline and duplicated it. Switched the first layer's audio off and the second layer's video off. I time streched the second layer, the audio layer to 100.1 and then rendered it out. It's not sync. Does anyone know the correct way to sync the audio?

    Thank you for your help

  2. You want to inverse telecine the 29.97 fps source (assuming it's film based) and then you don't need to change the audio. I don't know After Effects so I don't know if it can do the IVTC.

If the source is video shot at 29.970 fps then you really need to work at 29.970 fps in After Effects. You can't IVTC it because it wasn't 23.976 fps to begin with.

If your source was once 23.976/24 fps then you may be able to IVTC it, with avisynth being your best option, before working on it.

  6. Dunno, my eyesight must be failing. I thought I saw a typo, but it's gone now.

It looks to me like it's really 29.97fps and he's jusy trying to slow it to 23.976fps, rather than IVTCing it. And that's a very bad idea. It'll make all movement unnaturally slow, and when he manages to synch up the audio, it'll sound ridiculously slow and low (unless he manages to pitch-correct the audio, in which case it'll just be ridiculously slow). I could easily be wrong.

But the whole post is goofy. You don't blithely change it to 23.976fps just because it'll render more quickly. You render at whatever framerate it's supposed to be. And, as mentioned, if it's telecined film, you won't need to change the audio. And messing with the framerate and stretching audio isn't usually a very good idea, especially for people that aren't too sure of what they're doing.
