    hI,
pls. can anyone tell me which is the best software for converting dvd movies into avi, divx formats.
basically iam trying to convert 4.5GB movie dvds into a less size format something like 800MB
also is there any other format better than avi which gives good compression but maintains the quality.

also if u burn divx format movies onto a dvd will they work on divx compatable dvd players.

    lkin forward for the reply,
    thanks.

AutoGK, FairUseWizard, avi.NET. All will do it. All are good.

AVC produces better image quality at the same size, however it takes a lot longer to encode, and doesn't play on most standalone players.

If encoded within the restrictions imposed by the player, these files will play on standalone Divx certified players. AutoGK enforces these rules.

That's a problem with FUW. I have converted some files to a ISO, but that's an extra step. I like the program for ease of use otherwise. AGK has a lot more options, and is fairly easy to use, but takes a little study the first time.

    hi redwudz,
i installed autoGK and when i was trying to encode it gave a msg. saying that " i dont have divx professional installed, to i will have to reinstall the divx software with the option of GAIN".
now isnt GAIN an "Ad-aware" pls. let me know what u think about that.

also iam new to this ISO format, can u tell me abit about ISO files and can they be played on DVD player, and how do i make an ISO file from a dvd movie which is on my hard drive??

    thanku for answering
