I just bought a Sony HDD camcorder and of course it's software is not compatible with Macintosh, so I can't directly download the mpeg2 videos to my laptop. It give an error saying "unreadable file". I have creative suite that has Adobe premiere pro, and was wondering if I can use that someway to convert the mpeg2's to mpeg4's. Or.....what is the easiest way to view download and maintain high quality?
I'm not much of a whiz comps really, so an easy explanation is necessary.
Thanks, in advance!

When you plug it up to your mac via firewire, turn the camera on till is gets to the memory/playback section. What happens? Does it show up on your desktop?

I plug the camera into the mac using USB. When I turn the camera on, iphoto automatically pops up and recognizes there are files to upload, and asks me If I am ready to import. When I click import, mac only uploads the "pictures", not the videos. A message pops up saying the "other" files are unreadable.
