  1. Heya guys, just have a question that I would like someone with some knowledge to help me out if they can.

Is downloading a hd-dvd rip and burning it onto a DVD the same as buying the original and playing it on my HD-DVD player? (quality wise)?

    Same goes for Bluray. Thanks

Did you download the whole 25GB of it, or a re-encoded, resized, quality reduced version at a more reasonable size ?

  3. Heh, well I guess you've answered my question then. Yeah it was a 4.7GB size. So if thats the case, am I better off just grabbing the normal DVD one, or is the compressed 4.7GB still better than the DVD version?

No, the compressed 4.7 will not be better than the DVD version.

Assuming the original was 1080P (1920 x 1080), you have just reduced the resolution to 480P (720 x 480) for DVD compatibility.

Sheesh!!! What a waste of 25GB of bandwidth.

    Which # is higher?:

    A. 100% - 11%

    -or-

    B. 100% - X% - Y% - (11-to-40)%

B can only be equal to A if X and Y are Zero/Null and the last percentage is the original 11%.

A = original DVD (mastered from film)

B = ripped, downrezzed, downloaded, reconverted DVD (originally mastered from same film)

Especially if you don't know the provenance (chain of ownership, processes) of B, you're more than likely to have a worse product.
