    Greets All!

Here's is what I'm trying to accomplish:

Copy my DVDs to my PC after ripping with the daily ripper of choice (I use many to see if any work the way I need; I'm very open to suggestions!). I can only play them via Dlink DSM-510 which can see the following formats:

    Supported Video Formats** • MPEG-1
    • MPEG-2
    • MPEG-4***
    • WMV9
    • XviD with MP3 or PCM
    • AVI (MPEG-4 Layer Only)
    • DVR-MS

    Supported Audio Formats** • MP3
    • WMA & AIFF (PCM Only)
    • WAV Audio
    • Ogg Vorbis

So far only a few can play all the way through while residing on my pc to the DSM to be shown on the tv. The DSM has updated firmare and the pc has all other applications closed.

The video fails near the end on most, but at least 50% of the way through.

I've tried using NERO Essentials 7 as a backend server to stream/transcode from, but have the same results. I've also tried encoding with WMV9 and nothing changes.

I'm not sure where the problem is our where to start looking. I've got basically endless storage to work with; I just want to copy my movies on to the PC to stream them to the player so I can watch them on tv (more to the point, so I can have certain shows available for the kids to watch).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

There are many things that can cause playback issues when streaming.

If you use wireless g then even sub 1000 kbps bitrates can be too high to maintain a constant video stream. Ethernet is much more reliable for video than wireless.

You need to regularly defrag your HDDs to make sure you get a nice, constant read of the files.

Disable any real-time anti-virus or anti-spyware software. Also, many commercial defrag programs offer to either track your file access or defrag in the background. Either of these options can interrupt smooth playback.

I assume that these videos play fine if you are on the PC, and only have issues when streaming through the d-link.

The d-link is wired; so wireless delay is not an issue.

I do not use windows canned defrag and the app I do use I ensure it is not working when streaming.

The only one I missed based on your response was the anitvirus which is now shut off. I'll try it again though.

If anyone else does stream from their pc to another device, I'd be intersted in learning your end to end method also.

    Thanks!
