I am having some problems with VLC viewing multicast mpeg4 streams. I am trying on a pc with athlon 64 x2 6000+, 2 gb ram, 512 mb geforce 7900 gt, and 150 gb free hd space, running Vista Ultimate. It does not appear to be pegging out the machince as it is only utilizing 30 - 40% cpu usage, but the video is very choppy. Are there any settings that I could tweak to smooth up the playback? Are there any other programs that could perform any better? Is Vista the problem? Please help.

    Thanks,
    Steven

Sounds like a codec issue. What exact codec is being used?

Then you will need to try ffdshow (which works for some people) or CoreAVC. Most playback issues are cpu power or codec related.

Could also possibly be due to the network transmission errors

Thanks for the tips. I am going to try out the ffdshow and/or careavc.

I don't really think that is network transmission errors. I work for the telco where i get my service, and have been monitoring my port. I dont see any errors, and have plenty of bandwidth. I can stream our sd channels with no problems at all. Also, the audio in the hd channels is perfect. The encoding of the hd is good too, as we have a few hd stb's that we are testing on, and they seem to be working just fine. I just dont have an hd tv at home yet, and have been wanting to watch on my pc.

Again, thanks for everything. I will post back my results.
