Convert mpg2 to mpg for Movie Maker

Hi,
I have a Sony DCR-DVD306E camera and now I'm trying to get my videos into Movie Maker to edit them and get some result. I have a big problem and that is that Movie Maker doesn't recognise mpg2-format and I therefore need to change it to mpg. I've downloaded the program VOB2MPG to try to convert. I got the video converted BUT when importing it to Movie Maker it will only be an audio clip no images at all.
Now I wonder how I can get the videos I've made into the right format to work with Movie Maker. I'm a real newbie at this so I sure hope someone can help me because it's very annoying to not get anything to work!
I can open the videos with the program I have installed along with the video camera but I want to use Movie Maker to edit the movies, since it seem to be very easy to use.

You need an mpeg2 decoder installed on your PC for WMM to open mpeg files. Try installing something like PowerDVD or WinDVD Player. However, even after that you will find that WMM doesn't work nicely with mpeg2 source. It tends to lock up, crash or be generally disagreeable.

I would suggest you look at VideoRedo for simple assemble editing, or Womble Mpeg Wizard DVD for non-linear editing. Both are dedicated mpeg-2 editors and will make your life much simpler.

Thank you for your help. I realise that it's better to skip MovieMaker and work with one of the programs you suggested. The reason I was keen on using MovieMaker was that it's in my own language (Swedish) and when doing something one has never done before it feels easier to do it in Swedish. I can't see that the other programs have that possibility - well, English isn't that bad either.... Thanks again for your help.
