Hi all,
I've seen from this forum that fuji and JVC make good SVHS Tape. I can't seem to find anywhere in town here that sells any SVHS tape. I've tried Best buy, compusa and the local drug store. All carry VHS, but no SVHS.
Where can I buy this medis aside from online - Supermediastore carried VHS but I did not see SVHS

BEST BUY used to carry them but I haven't had the need to buy any in a long while now ...
There are a bazillion places that sell them on-line.
Just do a google.com search for "bulk s-vhs" and you will get a ton of hits.
One place I used to deal with alot was tapeworld.com
They were always fast and reliable when I did bulk VHS duplication stuff.

Buy high quality tapes like maxell Hi-Fi or TDK DSP and drill the holes yourself.
Been doing this for years and if real S-VHS tape looks better I can't see it.
Can't see a difference using SHG tapes either. -
If you have a SVHS vcr that has SVHS-ET you don't need to drill holes. However Ebay, and www.tapewarehouse.com are good places to try.

Thanks all,
I'm just using this right now to capture TV shows and movies during the week. So I only need a few of them for recording. I'm looking to get a DVR soon so won't need that.
Also use is for the old commercial VHS.
I'll do the online search. I was hoping that one of the local stores would have a few. -

ET uses the bandwidth available, but unused on VHS machine, on the VHS tapes.
You get more resolution, better quality. But still not up to full S-VHS. I used ET a lot for personal recordings off tv.
But you have to use high quality tapes, usually broadcast grade (Sony, JVC, etc) or very good consumer grade (TDK EHG or JVC HG are good). Low grade will look really bad (like grain) and leave gunk on the heads.
The S-VHS-ET is not full S-VHS, but it has enough resolution that it will usually grab every bit of the broadcast data, and it's often hard to tell if you're watching a tape or the original broadcast. That's something you can never do with regular VHS, as it's always softer and has chroma noise.
This is the poor man's S-VHS. Works well, but JVC machines are the best (calibrated to specifically do ET mode). In the old days, you took a drill or melted part of the tape to fool the S-VHS deck.

I so glad I brought SVHS tapes several years ago as back up. Now all of of sudden very hard to find SVHS Tapes & if you do find one the prices is ridiculous. $10.00 Bucks a tape

I know you said not online but count me as another vote for http://tapeworld.com/ When I was still buying tape I always ordered from them. They had good prices, good selection, shipped quickly and never any problems.

If you're looking for a "brick & mortar" store to buy SVHS tapes in, try Circuit City. I scoped some out at our local store about a week ago.

Video Only is also a likely B&M source. I used to get them there because they had the best price at the time.
