    It's $89.99 when I look at it.

Are these drives actually any good? Are they genuine Maxtor or a Seagate rebadge or some kind of genetically modified cross-breed?

They're fine, but they're SATA not parallel ATA. Office Depot was selling them for the same price.

If you have a newer computer with SATA that's fine, but if you have to use a SATA to Ultra ATA adapter like this one, then you lose the speed.

Now that Seagate has acquired Maxtor, it sounds like they are blowing out Maxtor inventory. I wonder if the name Maxtor will be used in the long term or if it will just fade away. I could care less, just curious.

I bought a couple of these two months ago when they were $109. Surprising how fast one can fill a TB.

Yeah, that's why I went down there to buy either the Maxtor or a WD for $99.99. I knew that the stores and the website are different when it comes to inventory and prices and that they might not have either one since I haven't seen a WD in their stores for a while.

They didn't have the WD and the Maxtor was $10 more but still a hellava deal for 500GB.

They've got a Maxtor 320 GB (300 + bonus 20) ATA/100 drive for $59.99 . I bought that one instead as my computer is a few years older and the salesman said buying the 500 gb drive with the SATA adapter isn't worth it.

Thanks for the initial heads-up, DarrellS. I picked up the Maxtor 500GB locally this morning

It'll go into an external enclosure (along with an existing 320GB), soon as I find a good one
