Menu lacking

I bought a DVD from someone who had fitted two separate films onto it.
There was no menu.
When using a DVD player with my TV, I can skip from one film to another with the remote controller, but I can't find a way of doing this on my PC with the Roxio player or with any of the players on my Mac.
Is there a simple solution, or is there a simple way of re-recording the DVD and adding a menu?

You can just demux the video/audio from the VOBs and re-author. If you still have the XP box then GUIForDVDAuthor is free and pretty easy to use. Just use VOB2MPG to get the mpg files out of the VOBs and go from there.
