  1. Hi there,

Does anyone here have any real VCD experience with the Instant DVD?

I'm looking for something that would offer excellent encoding quality in both MPEG-1 (for VCDs, which I'm producing now) and MPEG-2 (for DVDs, which I don't "do" yet)

I saw in other threads some people have complained about the fact that the MPEG-2 encoding might still be buggy for times that exceed 45 minutes, but strangely, nobody mentions the VCD quality, and in general the real goods on the card when it comes to simple MPEG-1 stuff. And of course, the capture section is under maintenance...

So I'm wondering if you guys might have extra details.

    Thanks.

  2. I used the Instant Dvd for 6 months making vcd's didn't have any problems with vcd's quality is not as good as can be expected compared to dvd quality . My only problem with vcd's is the amount of movie on them, I have to use 2 cd's for a 2 hour movie and someone in my family will loose one of the set

Using it for DVD has produced several problems but ads does support their product with upgrades that do fix the problems.

  3. The ADS instant DVD's VCD quality is not very good at all. Static images show WAY too much compression artifacts compared to something like the ProVideo PV-231 and PV-233 cards. The DVD MPEG 2 setting looks very good with the Instant DVD, but SVCD's don't look that great as the the SVCD setting tends to have vertical lines at the edges of things like faces. The Instant DVD's Mpeg 2 files are also nearly impossible to cut without losing sync.
