I just got aware of the vdc world. Amazing, but as extense is the confusion after reading, but seems that making a good initial Decision can save u lots of problems
What I want:
-save tv programs into vcd or svcd ( for now)
- see the recorded progarms in my tv, kinda tivo.
what I have
P 3- 600 mhz- 90 gb
I have seen AIW7500 but the output is s component and the WinTV-Nexus-s is not available.
would really appreciate input and other variables to be considered, mainly giving room to flexibility as my greed increases

Well I have the Radeon AIW and I LOVE it. But, I also know that it often takes a great deal of fiddling to get it to work as it should (all ATI products seem to carry this burden) But if you are good working with computers I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this card for everything you want to do. Especially given how cheap the 7500 is after the release of the 8500 DV.

looking for the right card !
Tkxs:
1-If I were to go for the AIW7500 which OS would you choose ( win 98- xp-me ?)
2- Can you convert S-component output to a simple coaxial signal for my tv?

I would go with Windows 98 SE simply because they have ironed out most of the problems. Windows ME is problematic as a system...it seems to either work flawlessly or not at all. XP is nice and stable but still has issues with some of the capture software. As for connecting to your TV I believe the answer to your question is yes. It has a dongle for simple component cables and I'm fairly sure if it doesn't have the connector you need built in (it probalbly does) then you could get an adapter at Radioshack or some such. Personally I have both the AIW and the Hollywood Magic Decoder card and the results I get on my TV -Out are astonishing.

hey guys
I have an old school ati radeon all in wonder. (the first ones that came out for $300 ;)) And believe me, it will connect to anything. Yes, the all in wonder has a DVI out on the back, but it comes with an adapter so you can plug your plain-jane monitor cable into it. It also has a composite cable in on the back. Theres another port, which hooks up to a purple breakout box. With this box, you have RCA input for all three red, white and yellow along with S-Video. You use this box for both input AND output. So you can hook it up to your tv and record FROM it or you can display the contents of the pc monitor on the tv. You switch it in the software. And i am running windows xp without ANY problems whatsoever. I've even just learned mpeg2 caputring, and it comes out wonderful. And yes, there is a bit of a learning curve. But really, its more preferences and what looks good. Basic capturing can be done day one. You just hit record on your ati software. But as far as bitrate, vcd, svcd, and all that, thats a bit of time to see what best fits you. Hope i was helpful. If you need any more info, let me know ;) -
Magma - to convert the component-out (plus Audio) to coax, you will need an RF converter ($30). Check your VCR, many have Component-in and Coax out, use it to convert signal.
Have been using ATI for many years, good value.
I believe you may need to increase your horsepower to capture in higher resolutions, but for VCD you should be OK. -
Thanks you all.
decided to get the aiw 7500. dice rollled, and waiting tho sail.
I am going to install direcX8.1 and mmc 7.6.
do I need sth else? -
I have the 7500 and windows xp and mmc-6 and you couldn't get a smoother running DVR if you wanted. All of the bugs are out of xp if you get the updates
