Would you cut out commercials if free downloads were available?

Consider this: Let's say things change so that your TV shows were available for FREE via downloadable media (maybe P2P or some other technology); maybe H264 for high quality. Let's also assume that these shows had the normal complement of commercials you'd see on broadcast TV.

So the question is this: Would you even bother to edit the file so that you could delete the commericals or would you just watch the show and toss it when you're done with it?

If it can be done painlessly then probably. I grab straight from the OTA digital stream, mostly for one-off viewing. With Womble it takes all of 2 minutes to remove the ads, so for my viewing pleasure it is well worth it. If I could cut out the ads as easily for downloaded material then I would do so. It is the logical extension of fast-forwarding through them on a VCR. Either way they don't get watched.

If it were just something that I wanted to watch and then delete then, no, I wouldn't bother to remove the adverts but it it were something that I would wish to keep then, yes, the adverts would have to come out.

I would just leave the comercials in because most tv shows are not worth all the trouble of editing out commercials. You can just fast forward through them if you don'y want to watch them

There's not very many of them though.
