Hi,
I have a portable multimedia player which can play divx files (in avi or divx container).
I've tried AutoGK to convert, it's great but very slow as 2 pass is mandatory
My target resolution is 384*288 25 fps because I only want to play the files on the device.
I've tried Dr Divx but 9/10 times it crash while trying to encode from ac3 sound even with the recommended codecs.
So, what software is the best and, important, the fastest ?
Thanks

Speed mostly is a function of your CPU. Alternatives to AutoGK is FairUseWizard and avi.net
You could also try SUPER, set it to AVI container, select your codec & c - But IMO the quality isn't all that good as other alternatives, even if speed is good.

Be sure you have the most recent build of Dr. Divx. I've never had it crash on me when converting AC3 to MP3. You can also encode with Dr. Divx without changing the sound and you could use VirtualDub-Mod later to demux the audio file and convert it in something else, like maybe BeSweet GUI and then replace the original AC3 audio file with your new one.Originally Posted by cd090580

Unless you're putting the files on CD why do you care exactly what size they are?Originally Posted by cd090580

If my vob file is about 150-180 MB (music video), I dont want a 384*288 which is 100 MB. +/- 25-30 MB is more than enough for this resolution (about 700-800 kbps)

So use a larger quantizer. A quantizer of 3 or 4 should get you what you want. Also be sure to pick a profile that will limit the bitrate to that which your player can handle.

@cd090580
get yourself a pentium D 9xx processor, & your worries are over m8
they're very cheap now & yet very fast @encoding.

PocketDivXEncoder is v fast and gives me great results re-encoding for my pocket PC. Can select audio & video quality and pre-view results before encode job.

Last I checked it (PocketDivXEncoder) didn't actually encode using DivX though. Think it used libavcodec, although it could have been Xvid, either way it was mencoder based.
libavcodec MPEG-4 is fine, unless someone particularly wants DivX 6.x.
