I want to back up a dvd of mine. However the movie ist seperated into several (6) different .vob-files. The first .vob-file is the opening scene of the movie, the next .vob file is the the next 20 minutes and so on... They are almost all 1024 Mb of size.

I don't want to convert each .vob and then join the avis, because they might add up a little bit over 700 MB. Is there any way to combine several .vob files and to encode afterwards?

There are ways a lot easier of doing that.
Just check the guides section at your left and you will find lots.

    Pick your choice.
1/ Use your preferred ripper application to create a single file output.
2/ Use D-Vision>Tools>Join vob files to, well, join the vob files.
3/ Use MPEG Streamclip to open the first vob, then say 'Yes' when it asks to open the other vobs of the same title also.
4/ Use cat (for concatenate) in the Terminal.

If you're talking about converting a DVD into divx/xvid/3ivx, then just use D-Vision3 to do that. Point it to the video_ts folder, set the conversion parameters, fire it off, and wait. There shouldn't be a need to join the vob files in advance.

Just load it in AutoGK, set it to one CD size output and go.
No need to join anything, neither VOBs nor AVIs.
