I have this homemade DVD.It is DL @ 6.54GB
The DVD plays very good with good PQ but man does the menu lack anything good.
I wanted to throw this thing into TSUNAMI MPEG DVD AUTHOR PRO and redo my own menu.Well that all went fine until I took a look at the simulation tab.
I get a popup saying:
How can this be? If it were really that high it should not play or play well on a DVD player correct? PowerDVD is showing video never even reaches 9Mpbs ( average of 7Mpbs ) while audio is at 384KpbsMaximum bitrate too high for a DVD-Video.
The current bitrate 10248 Kpbs of the clip 'title 1' in the track 'track 1' exceeds the DVD-Video standard maximum.
The DVD-Video standard maximum bitrate is 9848 Kbps.
How can I correct this so TSUNAMI MPEG DVD AUTHOR PRO will let me redo this DVDs menu.
Thanks in advance![]()

All DVD players should support the standard. However, some DVD players may not stop there and may be able to read content at a higher-than-standard bitrate. It's probably good not to go over 8 Mbps, just in case you run into a cheap DVD player that can't quite keep up.

Well the problem is if I ignore this warning, the resulting DVD is very nasty in PQ and I get what looks to be interlaced lines here and there.
So it isn't a problem of ignoring this warning, but getting this video down to size in bitrate so I can author a legit DVD
Will I have to re-encode this back to MPG and then go back into TSUNAMI MPEG DVD AUTHOR PRO with it? I assume yes but what software and steps? I have never ran into this issue when doing this with other crappy menu DVDs.I just throw them in and make my new menu and I am good to go. -
Is the "title 1 - track 1" referenced in the error your remade menu?
Is a "2:3 pulldown" applied to the menu? If so, some programs do not properly compute the bitrate with a pulldown applied.
If it's just the menu, just lower the bitrate and move on.ICBM target coordinates:
26° 14' 10.16"N -- 80° 16' 0.91"W -
The only thing I know is what I posted above. The popup is all I get and no further info.
Is there some sort of software I can get this info from?
Also, TSUNAMI MPEG DVD AUTHOR PRO does not let you lower bitrate. -
I would just ignore the warning as the alternative is to re-encode the entire DVD, with a resultant quality loss if you use your existing DVD as the source. As mentioned, you shouldn't have any problems with playback. But, in the future, you might keep your bitrate a little lower. You are not likely to gain any higher quality by going much above 9000kbps video bitrate anyway with most video sources.
BTW, from our 'WHAT IS' DVD page to the upper left:Total:
Total bitrate including video, audio and subs can be max 10.08 Mbps (10080 kbps)
If TDA produces a poorer quality or noisy DVD from your source DVD file, then it is doing something to the DVD that it shouldn't. How long does it take to author? If it takes an hour or so, there may be some re-encoding taking place. My older version of TDA can only re-encode the audio from 44.1Khz to 48Khz, but I'm not familiar with the newer versions' capabilities. -
I have no problem ignoring the warning. But when I do this and view the simulation of what my DVD will act like and look like, the result is not very good at all. What was a clean image is now showing intermittent interlaced lines.
Maybe I should let it do it's thing and see what comes out of the encoding process? I guess here goes time wasted LOL -
Yes, I wouldn't trust a simulation. You can always do the authoring and not burn until you view the results of the authored file.

I think I will do this and see what happens.
I just don't understand how that bitrate even got there. You would think any DVD authoring software would warn of this while creating it.
I can also tell this DVD was made with TSUNAMI MPEG DVD AUTHOR PRO in the first place so that makes this seem even more odd. -
Does your DVD have either multiple audio tracks and/or PCM audio? Multiple audio tracks and PCM audio can both push your bit rate over the limit if the video bit rate is very high to begin with. If you think this might be the problem, one possible solution would be to replace the PCM audio with AC3. Even if you only have AC3 audio with the right tools you could re-encode it to a lower bit rate and that might eliminate the error message you see.

First off, i have had TDA report the same thing with store bought pressed dvd's
I have alway's just ignored it and never had a problem.
TDA usually reports the final size of the dvd wrong also so i would not trust this warning either.
Second, the preview has alway's sucked, still suck's and alway's will suck :P
It's just a preview window, it's not intended to actually watch the vid. in hi quality.
Even though it does not sound like it, i really like TDA, have used it alot over the years!!
It won't hurt anything to do what redwudz said, author it then check it & watch it with powerdvd or windvd, ect. before burning it.
Heck, you could have done that and been done way before this thread even made it past the 2nd post 8) -
So it took an hour to test this out.Nothing fancy on the menu part as I didn't want to do all the work only to find out the result was going to be junk anyway.
As far as I can tell everything came out fine.I did notice my audio birate was bumped up though to 449Kbps .... is this something I should make TSUNAMI MPEG DVD AUTHOR PRO use 384Kbps as that is the input source in the first place.I think default is set to 448 and I can change it to 384
Thanks for all the help in this.
