Yeah, she also was the little girl with the map in Waterworld and her latest was the NBC version of Alice in Wonderland, though that was like 4 years ago or something.

Not just you navvieIs it just me or did anyone else think Tina Majorino (Deb) was pretty cute?

Anyways I vote Napoleon Dynamite best flick of the

I was going to get it but the guy at the video store told me it was like a Dumb and Dumber-er type flick so I passed.

That is a funny film - have you only just seen it 'cause I first saw that years ago.Originally Posted by offline

No I saw it when it came out some years back. Flaystus just mentioned it on the previous page. That is a funny film - have you only just seen it 'cause I first saw that years ago.
It was a straight to video release (no cinema) and I had to beg my local video store to get it in it was so
poorly rated and bizzarely expensive ($39 AUS dollars)

Another movie I really liked and many others did not
was Amercian Splendor. Have you seen that VCDHunter? -
I'll weigh in on the positive side, I thought it was really funny.
but I can totally understand why it's so polarizing - you either love it or hate it. and it's not funny in an Austin Powers / Farrelly Brothers broad sort of way.
"Napoleon... let me have some of your tots!"
"Get your own tots!"
and so you can hear some of the inflection :

I'll interpret that as a thumbs down for Napoleon Dynamite, since I like Austin Powers 2 so much.Originally Posted by tgpo

The movie about Harvey Pekar? That one was pretty funny. Paul Giamatti filled that role perfectly, though I don't think there were any weak performances unless you count the real people themselves, but then I don't think you can really say they weren't acting their part

I love Austin Powers 2 as well, but I just think it's a hard comparison between the movies because they are so different. I laughed more at Napoleon Dynamite than I did at Austin Powers 2.Originally Posted by zzyzzx
The humor in ND is completely opposite than Austin Powers. It doesn't use the gross humor and fart jokes(which I do think is funny). It just hard to explain the humor in it.
I'd say just rent it and give it a try. If you don't like it then you're only out ~$3. -
Yes, but I really really like gross humor and fart jokes. How does Napoleon Dynamite compare to Team America?Originally Posted by tgpo

GuestGuestUntil I saw it last night,I couldnt understand why the opinions were so polar. I had a few chuckles during the movie. This movie develops a multilevel, complex humor. I have a feeling it will be one of those movies that I feel is good(not awesome)/solid the first time I watch it and that I will like more and more with each viewing. I give it a 1 1/2 thumbs up the first time around.Originally Posted by housepig

I agree. The only mildly entertaining scene was a bicycle groin injury scene near the beginning of the movie. I didn't laugh once. Total waste of time. I didn't need to see the movie to understand the parodies either.Originally Posted by stiltman

Damn, I hate it when that happens. To this day the whole 'Interview with the Vampire' Kirsten Dunst seems to get in the way every time I see her in a shot where people are like 'DAAAAMN, she's HOTTTT!!!'Originally Posted by tgpo

Back on topic, I enjoyed the movie. I laughed at some parts and some parts were just laughable. I'm still a little foggy on the setting. Is it supposed to be the 80s or just some town trapped in the 80s. With the exception of the chat room thing (and yes, I know it's not new), I can't say that I saw much that would lead me to believe it wasn't the 80s.Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore. -
I was wondering about that also. But now that I think about it, the numerous instances of 80's music in the background, and the use of cassette tapes does kind of give it away. That and the fact tha Pedro is the only Mexican in the school, and actually speaks English.Originally Posted by ViRaL1

Seeing the opening sequence again, the school ID is for 2004-2005.
